Where's your next city break going to be?

London, we love you to death. But spending time apart is a healthy thing in any relationship. Which is why our Beyond London section features a collection of UK city breaks — all of them easily reachable from the capital by train, all of them tried and tested by yours truly.

Before you know it, you could be meeting the Beatles and riding the world's most psychedelic ferry in Liverpool. Or exploring the storied Shambles, and the marvellous railway museum of York. Maybe you'd prefer to be scoffing stotties by the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle. And when was the last time you made it to Leeds? (The brew scene has really taken off, and there are some smashing museums to boot.)

While you're headed in that direction, you could go all the way up to Edinburgh, delving into underground streets, climbing the famous Arthur's Seat (and of course, having a wee dram or two). Or, keep it simple with a breezy train ride from London, for fish 'n' chips beside the seaside in Brighton.

We're adding weekend city break guides all the time — and all of them have the lowdown on where to eat, drink and be merry (as well as how to get around, and where to stay).
