Dear reader,
Adrienne Clarkson, former representative of Queen Elizabeth II, has a beef with frat boys. Last year, Clarkson and a gaggle of other Annex residents lobbied city hall to crack down on the neighbourhood’s frat-house ragers: loud, obnoxious and soaked in booze. The city ignored the plea—just as it has brushed aside similar complaints from other Annex elites like Margaret Atwood and Galen Weston.
My sympathies go out to the Annex’s gilded homeowners, but the neighbourhood’s range of personalities has always been what makes it great. U of T professors mixing with bohemians, heritage architecture flanked by modernist towers, fancy bars on the same block as Wild Wing. It’s beautiful, if you ask me.
Curb Appeal’s top post today is the ultimate Annex house: a $5.8-million red-brick that’s half Victorian mansion and half modern loft. It’s also down the street from the Madison, so whoever ends up buying the place is in for a party.
