| | Good evening, It seems incredible in the 21st century that five days after a storm raced through the country there are still 30,000 homes without power.
Parts of Lancashire, Cumbria, the North East and Scotland are all struggling to cope with the aftermath of Storm Arwen which brought hundreds of power cables tumbling down.
And yes, in the main, these areas are pretty rural - but most of them are still only a few miles from major conurbations.
While power companies have been working around the clock to try to get heating to the most vulnerable, they say the sheer volume of problems is what is taking the time.
Is this not a case to send Army engineers in to help? After all, they are trained for situations much worse than one day’s extreme weather.
It is at times like this that it is easy to become paranoid. Would people in the Home Counties still be without power after five days or would those in the Westminster bubble have got it sorted pretty pronto?
