Good evening,
There’s a lot to love about the North of England.
Clearly, we are biased, but the people of the North take a lot of beating for friendliness and neighbourliness.
Before the pandemic, when many folk got to know their neighbours a little more, the Northern part of the UK was the one region where people said they knew the names of their neighbours and their children.
As well as the friendly folk, there is some magnificent scenery, from the Lakes and the fells of Bowland to the fabulous vistas along the Lancashire coastline. What’s not to love?
But, it seems, there is a price to be paid for all this. And that is in the life-expectancy of inhabitants.
In fact, in some areas, including Blackpool, residents can expect to live 25 years less than their counterparts in Kensington. It doesn’t take a genius to work out that this divide is almost certainly based on basics like money and housing but also education and opportunities.
Until we start to bridge this gap we will see history repeat itself again and again...with our children and grandchildren losing out.

Until next time, take care

Gillian
