[ Not displaying correctly? View web version. ] | Apogee Rocketry Workshop #240: | The Mini-Condor is a small, competition-style boost glider rocket that we created for the NAR's National Rocket Championship series. In this second video, we'll begin the assembly of the fuselage of the glider by glueing on the horizontal and vertical tail fins. They are very thin wood, so be careful when rounding off the leading and trailing edges. After the parts are glued on the fuselage, the pop-pod hooks are then added to the front edge of the boom. These engage the plastic hook on the motor pod. You'll see how to use the hook to make sure that they are perfectly positioned on the boom. What's special about this kit is that it's very easy to build because of its molded plastic wing-dihedral component. This special piece holds the wings at the perfect dihedral angle so that it always flies upright. It also has the proper angle-of-attack built into the part, so the glider will pull out of a dive and transition into a nice glide. To be honest, we borrowed the idea from the larger Condor Boost Glider - we just made it smaller so that it would be competitive against other fliers. This is a glider that you can easily assemble in an hour or two, and have a great glide without a lot of fuss. | View this week's Rocketry Workshop Video (Duration: 8:53) Previous videos are found on our archive page. |

| The Midge was specifically designed for the NAR's "Payload Altitude" contest event, but it can be flown just for fun too. It is a two-stage, minimum diameter rocket for 13mm diameter motors that is just big enough to carry the standard 1 ounce, BT-20-diameter payload weight plus a small altimeter. The purpose of the event is to launch this weighty payload to as high an altitude as possible. The Midge accomplishes this because of its two-stage design that minimizes weight and its minimum diameter design. You'll be impressed by how high a small mini-engine can launch a rocket! |
| The Mini-Condor is a boost glider that uses 1/2A or A-sized rocket engines. It zooms upward by rocket power and then glides gently back to the ground after dropping off the motor and its streamer pod. The glider trims easily, so you'll get fantastic flight durations and earn yourself a step on the winner's podium for the longest flight! Easy-to-assemble parts make it perfect for beginners, and fantastic performance makes it a must-have for seasoned competitors. The NAR's competition rules have changed, and this kit will give you the winning edge! |

“What prompted me to order through apogee is that they seem to be the "go to" place for any rocket hobby needs. They helped me get the parts that I will need for my level 1 certification. If a customer was on the fence I would say "Apogee had everything I needed for my certification and their customer service was excellent, very friendly and efficient.” — Blake Games

I need help with generating the bi-weekly newsletter articles since it takes a lot of effort to put them together. And I'm willing to pay big bucks for your help. So ask yourself, are you looking to earn some extra money? I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles. Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby. If you're interested in writing, see the guidelines on our site.
