[ Not displaying correctly? View web version. ] | Apogee Rocketry Workshop #272: | We had a customer recently contact us about putting a 29mm diameter engine mount tube inside of a rocket with a 33mm (BT-55 size) body. Since the two tubes are so close in size, we didn't have a ring for this situation. My solution is to make a custom centering ring by wrapping paper around the tube to build up a ring. I've covered this method in my book Model Rocket Design and Construction, but this is the first time I've shown how to do it in a video. It isn't a hard technique, and it actually makes a stronger ring than you can buy commercially because the glue is so much stronger. The video also shows how to make this a removable motor mount, so that you can put other size motors into the same rocket. And it shows how to secure the motor into the mount so you don't have to worry about it popping out at ejection. Check out the latest products to hit Apogee's shelves! | The Apogee printed nylon parachutes are a favorite among rocketeers. Now we've expanded the line with three new sizes. There is a 12 inch version that works great in smaller diameter rockets like a BT-50 size tube, and for a pilot chute to pull a main chute out of a deployment bag. We also have two LARGE sizes for high power rockets. We've added a 48 inch and a 58 inch for those rockets that need a delicate landing. They all feature thin-mil ripstop nylon fabric that feels like silk, and a colorful printed pattern that makes them easier to see in the sky and on the ground. |
| Yagi antennas increase the sensitivity of your radio receivers by amplifying the signal coming in. We now have two different yagi antennas that effectively double the range that you can track your rockets. One is for the 915Mhz frequency Simple GPS Tracker from Apogee, and the other is for the 433Mhz frequency used by the Altus Metrum transmitters. |
| If you're looking for a more robust launch controller for your school group or young club, the Estes Pro Series II Launch Controller may be what you're looking for. It is bigger than the traditional starter set launch controller, and it uses batteries with larger electrical capacity so you can launch hundreds of rockets in succession without having to worry about having enough power to set off the igniters. |
| The 3-inch diameter LOC Magnum Rocket with three 29mm motor mounts is made for people that love clustered flights! Its high power flights use low-cost, low-power motors. Altitudes from 1000 to 5,000 feet are possible. This kit includes an optional baffle system, nylon shock cord with loops sewn in, a 36″ parachute and all necessary assembly hardware! |
| If you like the Firewire Initiator, and you want a smaller version, we now have the "MINI" version that has all the same great qualities but is slightly smaller. It still fires off with a wisp of electricity, so it works well with most any electronic circuitry that you may have inside your rocket for dual-deployment. Plus, it is one of the first ones that has the approval of the government as being non-regulated! So you don't need an explosives permit to buy these e-match like igniters. |

I need help with generating the bi-weekly newsletter articles since it takes a lot of effort to put them together. And I'm willing to pay big bucks for your help. So ask yourself, are you looking to earn some extra money? I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles. Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby. If you're interested in writing, see the guidelines on our site. | |
