Garmin has the Apple Watch in its sights with the Venu 3

The new smartwatch costs $450 and boasts a 14-day battery life

Garmin has unveiled the Venu 3 smartwatch featuring a 45mm AMOLED touchscreen display and its packed with the kind of features you’d expect from a company that’s been in the game for years.

The Venu 3 goes big on battery life, with Garmin claiming it can run for up to 14 days on a single charge. Yes, that’s about 13 days longer than the Apple Watch.

The device offers more granular sleep tracking than its predecessor and even tracks your naps. It incorporates a new Sleep Coach feature, too, offering a sleep score and personalized tips for better rest.

The watch is also aimed at wheelchair users, providing push tracking, tailored workouts, and other relevant features.

The Venu 3 costs $450 and is compatible with Apple and Android phones. It comes with a stainless steel bezel and a silicone band and is available in two color combinations: whitestone/silver and black/slate.

Your PlayStation Plus subscription is about to get pricier

Sony will soon ask some of its gaming customers for more cash

Sony has announced price rises for 12-month subscriptions for PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium.

The higher fees mean that from September 6, a 12-month subscription for PS Plus Essential will increase from $60 to $80, while PS Plus Extra’s yearly price will rise from $100 to $135. PS Plus Premium is also going up, from $120 to $160. The new pricing for markets other than the U.S. are listed on the official PlayStation blog.

The Japanese tech giant said the increases are necessary “to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits” to the PlayStation Plus subscription service, noting that buying a 12-month subscription is still cheaper than subscribing to any of the shorter-term plans over the same period of time.

The price hikes come just a couple of months after Microsoft raised the price of the Xbox Game Pass ...

Phones, TVs, radios to sound off across the U.S. in alert test

It's the second such nationwide test for cell phones and the seventh for TVs and radios

Next month, cell phones, televisions, and radios across the U.S. will sound an alarm at around the same time. But don’t worry, it’s just a test.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will hold a nationwide test of their Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) at about 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 4.

It’s designed to ensure that the alert system is ready to warn citizens in the event of an emergency, especially ones that have a national impact.

The WEA drill should arrive on phones within 30 minutes of the designated time and will show the message: “This is a test of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

The EAS test for televisions and radios will last for about a minute and broadcast a similar message ...
