 CELEBRATE EARTH DAY 2018

More than 1 billion people in 192 countries participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic-focused day of action in the world. While Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd each year, now is the perfect time to consider and organize how you can contribute!

Consider signing up for a local New Jersey event, including stream cleanup, green fairs and outdoor festivals to make it fun for the whole family! Or plan your own so others can join you!

This year, the Earth Day Network is hoping to collect a list of "A Billion Acts of Green," small actions conducted by individuals or groups to help improve and protect the planet. The Earth Day Network is encouraging everyone to take personal action for this worthwhile cause.

UTILITY REBATES + NJCEP = WIN

Did you realize that several of the state's gas utilities offer rebates that can be combined with incentives from New Jersey's Clean Energy Program? Some offer very attractive financing rates to make energy efficiency upgrades more affordable and/or free home energy assessments for their customers!

Since all offers vary slightly, it is best to visit your gas utility website directly to learn how to maximize your savings:

NEW PILOT PROGRAMS ANNOUNCED

You may already be aware that the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program offers rebates and loans with the goal of making homes safer and more comfortable while reducing energy costs. The program recently launched two new pilot offers to New Jersey homeowners.

Under the first pilot, homeowners who have decided to move ahead with a Home Performance project can have their contractor install up to nine energy and/or water saving items at no cost. If you have already made the decision to invest in your home and make some upgrades to your equipment, these extra items will help you reduce your costs even further.

If you are not ready to jump into a comprehensive Home Performance project, but are still interested in addressing cracks, gaps, holes or adding insulation, this second pilot is for you. It involves a contractor installing air sealing measures and/or insulation and the homeowner is eligible to receive a $500 rebate for each. Addressing these types of issues will help keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and reduce your energy bills!

Visit our website to find out how to get started with a participating contractor.

About the New Jersey Clean Energy Program (NJCEP):

The NJCEP provides financial and other incentives to encourage customers of the State's electric and natural gas utilities to install energy efficiency (EE) or renewable energy (RE) technologies. Installation of EE and RE measures helps residential customers as well as businesses, local governments and schools reduce their electric and natural gas usage resulting in lower energy costs and reduced environmental impacts. Since 2001 New Jersey has invested more than $3.3 billion in incentives provided to over 1.6 million customers that installed energy efficiency measures and over 80,000 customers that installed solar systems.  Measures installed in the last year will save about 483,000 MWh per year reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 290,000 metric tons a year. The program is authorized and overseen by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU), and its website is www.NJCleanEnergy.com
