The innovative energy and water trade agreements -- originally initiated under the Abraham Accords -- continue to move forward. As part of the dual “Prosperity Green” and “Prosperity Blue” deals, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan will continue to plan an exchange of solar energy for clean water. Under the deal, Israel will utilize its water desalination technology to supply clean water to water-deficient Jordan. Jordan, in turn, will build a solar plant to share its energy sources with Israel. The collaboration is unconventional; but certainly promising. John Kerry, the American Climate Envoy, attended the meeting to encourage all parties to proceed. Jordanian and United Arab Emirates delegates joined Israel’s outgoing Regional Cooperation Minister, Esawi Frej, in a spirited show of cooperation. The signing of these agreements carries promise as a harbinger of peace between Israel and her neighbors. |

When Lonah Chemtai Salpeter came to Israel 14 years ago, she never imagined she would have her very own Wikipedia page. The 33-year-old, originally from Kenya, continues to bring pride to her adopted country as “Israel’s Fastest Woman.” This past Sunday, just 7 seconds behind the lead, Lonah placed an impressive second place in the New York City Marathon. When Salpeter was a new immigrant at 19, her experience with running consisted of chasing after noisy children. As a full-time nanny, she jogged in the park as a hobby during her time off. Fellow runners took notice of her natural agility and convinced her to sign up for local races. The rest of the story, she says, took off on its own sprint. Wearing the Israeli flag at the finish line, Lonah emulates perseverance. “I want to inspire the younger generation in Israel.” |

The clock changed, and so did the game, say those in Israel’s maddening “Soccer-on-Saturday” debate. Bezalel Smotrich, an Israeli lawyer and longtime politician who is gearing for a pivotal role in the new Netanyahu administration, has provoked a Twitter war about scheduling soccer matches on Saturdays. “It is undemocratic,” he says. His argument to soccer authorities contends that over half of Israel's growing population are being excluded from these games. The schedule makes it impossible for Sabbath observers to attend sporting events. The changing of the clock heightened the problem, as the games are now held even earlier in the day. Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman tweeted that Smotritch’s appeal threatens Israeli policy and warns that Israel can't govern as a “theocracy.” Sports fans across the Jewish State are hoping this can be resolved in a way that ends up being a spectacular win for all. |

I never imagined that it would become such an important part of my life. Helping people who are missing their most vital needs and who cannot put food on the table has completely changed how I look at myself, and transformed me into a better person.” |
