| | | | Hi, As we close down another pandemic year, we're reflecting on all that we are grateful for, and MozFest is deeply thankful for the community of Wranglers, Facilitators, Ambassadors, participants, allies and Volunteers. MozFest is first and foremost the community of people from all around the world who want to create and take part in a safe and open internet. The first festival in London was built by an amazing community of local Volunteers and over a decade later, MozFest continues to depend on its volunteers to deliver a joyful and smooth experience to all participants. In 2021, an equally incredible cohort of virtual Volunteers from around the world made sure that our first ever online MozFest was a success for nearly 10,000 Wranglers, Facilitators, and attendees. Longtime Volunteers have become part of the fabric of the festival, and they go on to become coordinators and mentors to new Volunteers. At MozFest, Volunteers: Answer questions on the #help channel of the MozFest community Slack. Help participants navigate the online program to find the sessions they want to attend. Help Facilitators run the technical parts of a session, like managing Zoom. Meet and network with like-minded people from around the world interested in a healthier internet and more Trustworthy AI. The call for Volunteers will remain open through December 3rd, 2021. If you are interested in volunteering and you can join us from early afternoon through late evening Central European Time on March 7-10, 2022, we would love to welcome you into our community of volunteers! Next week, MozFest will be releasing early bird tickets which will provide access to: fringe events designed to build momentum towards key sessions at the festival, on-demand content, and special surprises. Get ready to get your tickets early for MozFest 2022. Happy end of 2021, Sarah MozFest Director AI & Democratic Values Earlier this month, Mozilla co-hosted a panel with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) on the topic of AI & Democratic Values. As artificial intelligence (AI) technology grows more sophisticated and prevalent, a wide range of challenges and concerns are arising. Chief among them: What does an automated society that upholds democratic values look like? This panel was part of a series of listening sessions and events by OSTP to engage the American public in the process of developing a Bill of Rights for an Automated Society. MozFest & Youth Youth and Futures is the Mozilla Festival Space for the young, and this year we're focusing on youth participation for digital futures — and where better for this than MozFest? Nowhere else brings together technologists, educators, creatives, policy-makers, activists and youth from around the world with the common purpose of facilitating internet health and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI).
