Good evening

Variety, they say, is the spice of life.
And that is never more true than when it comes to the human race.
While there are those folk who have to try new stuff the minute it comes out and are prepared to queue overnight for a new iPhone (the marketeers call them Early Adopters), there are many others who are much more cautious and wait for others to take the lead before they make a step into the unknown themselves.
I suspect we are likely to see something similar happen in the next few weeks as we make the first moves to get our lives back to some kind of normality. The shops will open on Monday and there will be people heading into town to look around. It will be the same when hospitality services are allowed to re-open.
While some of us may feel it is too early to be lifting restrictions in certain parts of the country, the Early Adopters will be the ones who are helping us to get the failing economy moving again - and saving a whole load of jobs in the process.
If that’s you, I take my hat off to you - but urge you to take care where you tread.
I'm signing off for a week's rest (in the back garden with a glass of something chilled, I hope), so I will leave you in the safe hands of Deputy Editor Nicola Adam.

Feel free to keep me up to date with your views at gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk

Until next time, stay safe.
Gillian
