Please let me be short and sweet.
When I read Bosker’s book on her deep dive into the art world, it inspired me to become a better artist.
I love art.
Love making it. Love owning it.
Love supporting other artists.
Art does make life richer.
Because it disturbs the status quo.
If you’ve ever seen propaganda art, you know just how life-denying it is. It attempts to crush your intellect, dampen your spirit, and force you to conform.
Art that is not propaganda art ignites your mind, jump-kicks your heart, and inspires you to be your most authentic self, despite all obstacles.
I met a local artist the other day. She’s of Chinese Canadian descent, and her work is exhibited in museums and galleries. We shared pictures of our art. She works on paper mostly, as do I. She commented on how my paintings are very Eastern in mood. I told her my work is very inspired by Eastern art.
That conversation was so enjoyable and affirming.
I do want to make the world a more beautiful place.
And I realize that this not only means creating beautiful art, but also creating art that disturbs the status quo and challenges anti-beauty.
I do this through my cartoons (the challenging part) and my paintings (the beauty part).
So here’s to the kind of art that sets us free, not the kind that shuts us down.
