GLOUCESTER, MASS.- Just four months after publicly launching its CAM-150 capital campaign with $18 million raised, the Cape Ann Museum recently announced a new gift, one that will result in its first named staff position as an institution. This transformative gift is a result of the generosity of Henrietta Gates and Heaton Robertson. Henrietta, the Museums Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Heaton are keen to see the proceeds of their gift be used to endow the Chief Curator's position, a leadership role currently held by Martha Oaks. As Henrietta said, We are inspired to recognize the excellent work that Martha Oaks has done and continues to do for the Museum and ensure that CAM will be able to attract and retain top talent for this critical role in the future. Book review: Day Jobs, edited by Veronica Roberts | | Mark Dion takes a critical look at children's toys | | Museum in Bonn showcases comprehensive Bruno Goller retrospective | Day Jobs. Hardcover, 8.75 x 11.6 inches. 340 pages / 188 images ISBN: 9798890180834 AUSTIN, TX.- In a world that often valorizes the myth of the solitary artist toiling away in a secluded studio, Day Jobs offers a refreshingly nuanced perspective on what it means to make art while navigating the pressures of everyday employment. Edited by Veronica Roberts and featuring a foreword by renowned art critic Lucy R. Lippard, this richly illustrated and thoughtfully assembled volume examines the less-visible aspects of creative production: the jobs that pay the bills, the mundane routines that keep the lights on, and the delicate balancing act that so many artists maintain. Co-published with the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, Day Jobs challenges traditional narratives of artistic success and redefines our understanding of what it means to sustain a creative practice. The books central premise revolves around a pressing question: ... More | | Mark Dion in the exhibition, Mark Dion: Delirious Toys © Stadtmuseum Berlin | photo Michael Setzpfandt. BONN.- In the Delirious Toys exhibition, US artist Mark Dion, internationally renowned for his contemporary cabinets of curiosities, stages the world of play and fantasy and, with hundreds of exhibits, not only transcends space and time, but also takes a critical look at children's toys themselves. For the exhibition, he spent months researching the Berlin Stadtmuseum's collection of around 70,000 objects, one of the largest in Germany. On this basis, he created a labyrinth of board games, a procession of animals, a circuit with an imaginary race between vehicles of all kinds, a giant chest full of teddy bears, a doll's cave and a war landscape. Historical doll's houses and a "poison cabinet" with borderline and cross- border toys can also be seen. Mark Dion has been working intensively since the late 1980s with the question of how knowledge is generated and passed on in ... More | | Bruno Goller, Frauenkopf, 1957. BONN.- The Kunstmuseum Bonn is currently hosting one of the most extensive solo presentations of Bruno Gollers work to date, featuring 75 paintings and a curated selection of drawings. Goller, born in Gummersbach in 1901 and deceased in Düsseldorf in 1998, holds a unique place in 20th-century German and international art. Rejecting contemporary trends, Goller remained steadfastly figurative throughout his career. His works evoke an enigmatic, almost magical quality, transforming everyday objects and scenes into symbols with new meanings. Childhood memories, particularly of his mothers millinery shop, heavily influenced his distinct iconography. Common motifs in his work include mannequin-like female figures, hats, ribbons, and wardrobes. After moving to Düsseldorf in 1927, Goller became a central figure in the citys art scene. He was associated with Johanna Ey's gallery, a member of the artists' ... More |

DALLAS, TX.- Dorothys Ruby Slippers sold Saturday at Heritage Auctions for a price somewhere over the rainbow, way up high: $32.5 million. One of four surviving pairs worn by Judy Garland in 1939s The Wizard of Oz, the slippers that sold Saturday are now the most famous and, by far, the most valuable movie memorabilia ever sold at auction. That single pair of shoes also helped Heritages December 7 Hollywood/Entertainment Signature® Auction set the record for an entertainment auction: $38,615,188. That shatters the $22.8 million realized during the 2011 Debbie Reynolds auction held by Heritage Auctions Executive Vice President Joe Maddalena. PARIS.- White Cube is presenting The Void, an exhibition dedicated to the relationship between the late Greek artist Takis (19252019) and the city of Paris. Born Panayiotis Vassilakis in Athens in 1925, Takis migrated to Paris in 1954, drawn by the citys intellectual vibrancy. Here, he became acquainted with Alberto Giacometti already a major influence and fellow innovators of the then-nascent kinetic art movement including Alexander Calder and Jean Tinguely. Paris was where several of Takis most important artistic explorations began, spurred by two epiphanies that would lay the foundation for his lifelong obsession with non-verbal forms of communication and extra-physical realms. The first of these took place in 1955, when the artist first saw the signalling lights at a train station in Calais, an encounter that would develop into his Signals series. Then, in 1958, Takis began to experiment with magnetism in his work as a means of manife ... More |

New permanent work by Giulio Paolini at the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan | | Leon Höllhumer presents a multi-layered multimedia project at Halle für Kunst Steiermark | | Retrospective exhibition on the work and life of Anna Andreeva opens in Greece | Installation View, Giulio Paolini, A.R.S. scaenica, at Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan. Photo Agostino Osio Alto Piano. MILAN.- To conclude the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the Teatro Franco Parenti, Giulio Paolini was invited to create a permanent work for the building of the Bagni Misteriosi, adjacent to the historic seat of the Milanese theater. At the center of the installation titled A.R.S. scaenica is a white plinth, surmounted by a miniature cardboard theater hosting a plaster sphere. Two stretchers leaning up against the plinth hold a globe in precarious balance. A red stage curtain that falls from the plinth to the floor holds nine photographic panels having to do with the history of the Teatro Franco Parenti, scattered among several gilt frames. A photographic reproduction of the nymph Echo hangs upside-down from the ceiling, as if in the act of falling upon the center of the representation. Three other gilt frames hang from the ceiling at various heights. The key to interpretation lies in the enigmatic white sphere inside the theater, which ... Aesthetically, his works refer to punk and horror films as well as various analogue and digital DIY practices. Above all, his works are daring, bold, and strikingly direct. At Halle für Kunst Steiermark, similar to his previous works, Höllhumer presents The Feast: a multi-layered multimedia project which offers an immersive experience incorporating scnenic narratives, film and installation. More Exhibition includes different kinds of works, from photographs to video art by Rinko Kawauchi BERLIN.- In a world of change and chaos, where the pace of life often feels relentless, there is a quiet revolution in the art of simply being present. Its in the often-overlooked everyday moments that we find a serene kind of power. This presence becomes an act of defiance, grounding us in a time when the world seems to be moving too fast. When Rinko Kawauchi visited Iceland in the summer of 2019, she felt this desire to slow down and reflect. Surrounded by humbling geysers and glaciers, her wish was fulfilled: As I gazed at this sight, I had the sense of being a fetus enveloped by the earth, and I felt a connection to this planet I have never felt before. Later that year, she planned to go back to Iceland, but the COVID-19 pandemic stopped her. Instead, she visited the Japanese island of Hokkaido many times during winter. These experiences led to the creation ... In addition to the physical and sensuous aspects of the world- and self-perception, the emotionality of individuals is highlighted. At the center lies the question: How do I feel?
