Second Kunstkammer Contemporary Art © Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. Photo: Klemens Renner. DRESDEN.- For the first time toward the end of 2023, the Kunstkammer Contemporary offered a view of the contemporary art holdings of the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann as well as of other collections of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. With the second Kunstkammer Contemporary, the format is being further established as a new array of works takes the place of those from the first Kunstkammer Contemporary. Every autumn, the Kunstkammer Contemporary is completely reconfigured, with a keyword serving as a through-line that informs the selection of works from the holdings of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. The keyword for the second Kunstkammer Contemporary, which runs from November 30, 2024, is human. And so, in the sculptures, paintings, graphic and video works, the exhibition will focus on what is human. Included are some very concrete thematizations of the human. The nude, a classic subject in art, is shown in numerous ... More |

MUNICH.- Just short of a century lies between the first fitted kitchen and the personally configured kitchen of today. In the course of that long period, designers and architects developed countless new solutions and responded to changes in technology and society. The spectrum ranges from the simple cooking niche to the kitchen as the communicative heart of the home. It starts with the Frankfurt Kitchen (1926) by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky. The first so-called fitted kitchen developed for around 10,000 apartments was intended to make the household as efficient as possible for women. Prominent examples from the post-War period show how important the kitchen was in Functionalist architecture: The kitchen unit for the Unité d'habitation residential tower block in Marseille (1946-1952) by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and André Wogenscky with around 330 apartments or the kitchen designed by Arne Jacobsen ... Penetrating the confinement of the storage space, the outside eye transgresses. It selects and releases a response from the object, bringing it out of the dark by re-appropriating, re-collecting, and re-classifying it through a heterodox dialogue of elucidation. LOS ANGELES, CA.- David Kordansky Gallery is presenting Halfrican, an exhibition of new paintings by Chase Hall. The exhibition is on view in Los Angeles, where it occupies three of the gallerys spaces at 5130 W. Edgewood Pl., from November 8 through December 14, 2024. Hall has developed an expansive vocabulary for documenting the ever-shifting line between personal and generational narratives. His distinct approach to his materials, which include the staining of cotton supports with espresso and the alchemy of producing his own coffee-based pigments which have characterized his work of the last few years, reflects and critiques the ways in which systemic forces of oppression, and trade, have divided people, territory, and the physical substance of the planet itself. As its title suggests, each painting in Halfrican poses a series of questions about how identities are constituted, often along lines ...
