Giorgio Morandi, Natura morta, 1944. PARIS.- The exhibition Giacometti/Morandi. Still moments at the Institut Giacometti presents the unique meeting of the uvres of two major post-war artists. Although they were contemporaries, Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) and Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) never met, but many essential characteristics bring them close together. This exhibition is the first opportunity to examine these connections: their particular practice in relation to their studio, the attachment to a familiar environment and models, and a singular research rooted in careful attention to real life. Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) and Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) were contemporaries. Both made of their studio, a room-studio in Via Fondazza in Bologna for Morandi, a studio in rue Hyppolite-Maindron in the Montparnasse neighbourhood for Giacometti, the matrix of an uvre dominated by the continuity of a unique and same research whose development conveys the meaning of their respective lives. They shared the recurrence of ... More |

Ancient murals at El TajÃn rise from the ashes, thanks to dedicated restorers and local community | | Sandro Chia's poetic fusion of art forms on view at Galleria Maggiore | | Akim Monet Fine Arts presents: Myths Reimagined: Rodin and the Art of Transformation | The iconography represented in the pictorial manifestations corresponds to the Gulf cultures. Photo: Fabián González, INAH. PAPANTLA.- The vibrant colors and intricate stories painted on the walls of El TajÃns Building I are slowly returning to life, thanks to the tireless efforts of a team of restorers and the support of the local community. The ancient city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, suffered significant damage in 2021 from Hurricane Grace and again in 2022 from a devastating fire. But like the resilient cultures that built this remarkable place, the murals are being painstakingly brought back from the brink. Imagine the scene: a team of 25 people, a mix of seasoned professionals and local residents, carefully brushing away soot, stabilizing crumbling fragments, and piecing together a fragile history. Led by the dedicated restorer Dulce MarÃa Grimaldi Sierra, this diverse group is working to save what remains of these precious cultural treasures. Its heartbreaking to see the damage, says Grimaldi Sierra, her voice tinged with both sadness ... More | | Sandro Chia, Cornice, 2011. Maiolica policroma e tecnica mista su carta, 48 x 37 cm © Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. PARIS.- In an explosion of colors, lines that tell stories, and shapes that chase each other across glossy surfaces, the Galleria d'Arte Maggiore g.a.m. is hosting a solo exhibition by Sandro Chia at its Paris location. Chia is one of the leading figures of Transavanguardia, a movement born in the 1980s in New York from a group of Italian artists aiming to revive figuration and narration-key characteristics of Italian art history and tradition. In Chia's case, figure and narrative unfold not only in painting but also in sculpture, mosaic, and ceramics. In this context, the Galleria Maggiore presents alongside some majestic painted canvases a selection of works created for Chia's important solo exhibition at the Museo Internazionale della Ceramica in Faenza (2011) - realized with the contribution of Maggiore g.a.m. - where painting and ceramics blend into a poetic continuum. As Chia himself states, "Ceramics are the celebration of the ... More | | Installation view. DALLAS, TX.- Akim Monet Fine Arts, in partnership with the Musée Rodin, Paris, announced its exhibition, Myths Reimagined: Rodin and the Art of Transformation, running through April 12, 2025, at the gallerys Dallas location. This exhibition marks the tenth anniversary of the gallerys collaboration with the Musée Rodin, offering a nuanced exploration of the timeless dialogue between myth, creativity, and transformation. The exhibition features a dozen Rodin bronzes, representing various periods of his career and illuminating the breadth and significance of his artistic legacy. These are presented in conversation with modern artists Joseph Beuys and George Grosz, as well as contemporary artist Lita Albuquerque, creating a cross-temporal dialogue that underscores the exhibitions themes. A key highlight of the exhibition is the inclusion of works by Akim Monet himself, featuring photography and conceptual sculpture. By stepping into the role of artist, alongside that of gallerist ... Experience Erwin Pfrang's intricate realities in 'The Ghosts Ask' at David Nolan Gallery | | New book celebrates the first 10 years of the Bosco Verticale | | Jeppe Hein invites you to experience his evolving artistic process | Erwin Pfrang, Bodenhaltung (Barn Farming), 2018. Acrylic emulsion on canvas, 63 x 47 1/4 in (160 x 120 cm). NEW YORK, NY.- David Nolan Gallery is presenting Erwin Pfrang: The Ghosts Ask, its sixth solo exhibition of the celebrated German artist (b. 1951 in Munich). The gallery included Pfrangs work in a group show in 1988, a year after its founding, and mounted its first solo exhibition of the artists work in 1991. A selection of Pfrangs recent paintings and works on paper, showcasing the artists acute observations and original style, are on view in The Ghosts Ask from January 10 through March 1, 2025, also coinciding with Master Drawings New York 2025. Erwin Pfrangs art rarely has a finite entry or exit point, nor many of the understood conventions of painting and drawing. His compositions evoke a modern-day Bosch, but are more deeply psychological, often depicting multiple perspectives within a single canvas or sheet of paper. According to the artist, when you turn away from a picture, you often dont know what was ... More | | The new book is dedicated to the tree house that also hosts humans and birds. © Boeri Studio. Photo: Dimitar Harizanov. NEW YORK, NY.- Inaugurated in the autumn of 2014, the Bosco Verticale was designed and planned by the Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra) and built and managed by COIMA in Milans Porta Nuova neighbourhood. It has just celebrated its tenth birthday, along with ten years of awards, recognitions, studies and work which have meant that today it is a symbol of the city of Milan, a model not only for green architecture but also a pop icon and a star of films, television series, quizzes, jewellery, fashion, advertising and even songs. I realised that the Bosco Verticale was a game changer not when it won the award for the worlds best skyscraper, but a few months later, when the great graphic designer Giuseppe Montanari sent me his drawing of Dylan Dog and Groucho looking astounded at this strange, bizarre, high-rise home for trees, humans and birds in the heart of Milan ... More | | Installation view. © Photo by Roman März. BERLIN.- KÃNIG Telegraphenamt is presenting When My Soul Throws Up, a solo exhibition by Jeppe Hein featuring a collection of works that gives insight into his current artistic process. Over the past few months, the artist has been experimenting with shapes, colors, and materials, and many of the exhibited works bear witness to his exploration of motifs, both new and old. Together, these pieces present Hein's developmental approach to finding new forms of expression for the themes that continue to inspire him and through which he wants to inspire others with his work. Hein's preoccupation with water, both as material and theme, is manifest in his fascination with the sea, a subject that can be seen already in his earlier works. He has always been inspired by the smooth surface of the sea, in its reflective properties, like those of a mirror, as well as in the changing structures in rough seas, and the restless movement of its waves, which remind us of the rhythm of life and how breath flows thr ... Susan Hefuna's textiles explore fragility and planetary connection | | National Gallery Van Gogh exhibition to open 24 hours | | Sikkema Jenkins & Co. changes name to Sikkema Malloy Jenkins | The show will run until March 8th 2025. ISTANBUL.- For her latest solo exhibition at Pi Artworks, Susan Hefuna presents her most recent body of textile works, a series which reflects on the fragility of life, nature and humankind. Reminding viewers of the cycle of time, LISTEN TO: The Sound of Earth, Sun, Water and Air, blends colourful collages of text and shape to trigger feelings of togetherness and of a connectedness with our planet. Informed by the aesthetics of Africa and Japan, the traditional craft of American quilts, and of storytelling worldwide, Hefuna has been creating textile works since 2001. Through exploring this medium in costume, installation and wall tapestries, she has developed her own artistic language that connects words with structures of dots and lines - motifs familiar from her multilayered drawings. In these striking, graffiti-like works, such as the WATER diptych or the LISTEN TO triptych, these connected white dots and lines ... Tom Allen's "Persona" at Air de Paris explores hidden depths through masked figures | | The Kent State University Museum announces winter exhibition | | New Taipei City Art Museum opens in April | Tom Allen, Yesterdays Twilights 2024. Oil on canvas 38,5 x 33 cm. Unique. PARIS.- Personathe outer limits of self, hung on as mask, a bit of artifice. In the paintings of Tom Allen, a mysterious, ineffable plentitude emerges from the folds of promissory surfaces, projections of the masked, and the saturated effects, intensities of light and colour, which animate the strange surfeit as a kind of subject. Cloven and concealed, yet inexhaustibly present, are conformations and complexions that tell of a concealed presence, still invisible, yet surely there, as a possible threat, or lure, cached in high contrast and prodigious detail. Allens recent paintings, namely, are drawn out of, and into, the complex double movements of the titular personaethe scorpion and the bull, opposing signs courted from across distant asterisms and tropical lines; twin orchids, spotted with unseeing eyes, open wide; the sorrow chasing nepenthes, quieting all pain and strife; and, more enigmatic, the withdrawn masquerade of faces in low ... More Nina Azoulay sculpts identity through garments and memory at Michel Rein PARIS.- By the chance of an opportune meeting, by fortunate circumstances, through the immediate chemistry of certain bodies or the labor of numerous attempts, one occasionally witnesses the magic of well- crafted arrangements. For, despite calculations or appearances, one thing sometimes fits perfectly with another, matching it as though tailor-made. I believe that it is at this initial scalethe one of fortuitous assemblies, of an art of connection and detailthat Nina Azoulays work can be understood. Her gestures draw equally from the precision of the goldsmith and the resourcefulness of childhood; thus, through the simplicity of a stacking or sometimes a perforation, objects that would seem incompatible are affected and come together as sculpturescreating moments of weightlessness in certain places, levitations in others. This grammar of weight ... More Derek Eller Gallery opens a solo exhibition of new paintings by Joseph Olisaemeka Wilson NEW YORK, NY.- Derek Eller Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of new paintings by Joseph Olisaemeka Wilson entitled Hard Times and Silver Teeth at the Spicewood County Casino. For this show, Wilson tells a story set within a visionary casino, replete with masked and costumed gambler/performers and chimerical slot machine/animal hybrids which resemble altars. In this timeless context, Wilsons poetic narrative walks the line between reality and imagination, and gambling becomes an allegory for life and love. Joseph Olisaemeka Wilson (b. 1999, Los Angeles, CA) has lived and worked in New York since 2017. Recent solo exhibitions include Vielmetter Los Angeles; Asia Art Center Taipei; Tiwani Contemporary in London and Fergus McCaffrey in St. Barth. Curated by Valentine Umansky (Tate Modern, London), She Who Starts the Song features works by 23 artists, predominantly from the Balkans, selected through an open call. The exhibition takes its inspiration from tepsijanje, a traditional musical practice rooted in Kosovo, performed largely by women. This unique form combines vocal melodies with the rhythmic spinning of a copper pan (tepsija). Here, tepsijanje becomes a metaphor for inherited gesturespassed from mother to daughterthat bridge generations with those of the past. Centred on an unnamed female singer, the exhibition explores gendered traditions and their ongoing subversion, examining photography, moving images, and sonic ...
