LONDON.- Acclaimed British painter, Jock McFadyen RA is the co-ordinator of the 251st Summer Exhibition. McFadyen, alongside the Summer Exhibition Committee intends to build on the exhibitions success, recognising that it continues to provide a unique platform for artists at all stages of their career to present recent work. Highlights within the Main Galleries include a menagerie in the Central Hall curated by Jock McFadyen RA, with works by artists including Polly Morgan, Charles Avery and Mat Collishaw. Jane and Louise Wilson RA organised two gallery spaces, one of which showcases light and time based work. Spencer de Grey RA curated the Architecture Gallery, which explores the theme of sustainability. The celebrated artist Thomas Houseago is showing a group of large-scale sculptural works in the Royal Academys Annenberg Courtyard that respond to the Academys statue of Joshua Reynolds, which has stood in the courtyard since 1931. Reading Between the Lines: Drawing Illustrations (on view at the J. And the immersive experience is possible because, yes, there's an app for that, courtesy of a French start-up, Digital Music Solutions. "NomadPlay" is all down to an algorithm which separates out the sound components of a score to remove any instrument as desired, fading out an oboe or piano part for instance, and allowing the home musician to join the fray. NEW YORK, NY.- Illustration Art at Swann Galleries on June 4 saw a bustling auction room with bidding wars delivering strong prices: I was extremely pleased with the collector participation in all subject areas of the sale, but Broadway legends stole the show today, as it were, with two outstanding Hirschfelds and the Mielziner, said Illustration Specialist Christine von der Linn. The sale was led by Al Hirschfelds Paul Robeson as Othello, published on August 9, 1942 in The New York Times, which captures Robeson in his groundbreaking moment as the first time an American production of Othello cast a black actor in the titular role with a white supporting cast. The only portrait of the actor by Hirschfeld, it brought $68,750, the second-highest price for the artist at auction. TACOMA, WA.- Imagine standing beside a mucky pit in your yard on the Olympic Peninsula and hearing This is the most important archaeological discovery in the world today. Those words were spoken by Washington State University professor and researcher Dr. Richard Daugherty to Clare and Emanuel Manis on a sweltering Sequim afternoon more than 40 years ago. A dig on their property turned up the remains of an ancient mastodon, and some major surprises, leading to a re-write of North American history. LONDON.- The Institute of Contemporary Arts announced the unveiling of a newly commissioned permanently sited work by Rirkrit Tiravanija, untitled 2019 (the form of the flower is unknown to the seed) on 6 June 2019. The work occupies the alcove in the common area of the ICA, between the Lower Gallery and the Theatre, transforming it into a new social space comprising a sake bar, seating and tables crafted in Tiravanijas studio in Chiang Mai, set within a painted sunrise and sunset. This new work marks Tiravanijas return to the ICA, following his participation in the landmark exhibition Real Time in 1993. Christo and Jeanne-Claude were born on the same day, June 13, 1935; Christo in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and Jeanne-Claude in Morocco.
