Patrick van Mil, director of the Prinsenhof museum, looks at the painting Little Street (Het Straatje) by Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) at the museum in Delft, on March 22, 2016. The painting is seen in Delft for the fist time since 320 years. Bart Maat / ANP / AFP. DELFT.- Museum Prinsenhof Delft is bringing Vermeers The Little Street back to Delft. For the first time in 320 years this famous masterpiece by Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) can be seen in the city where it was painted. The reason for its temporary move is the recent study of The Little Streets location by Professor Dr Frans Grijzenhout, Professor of Art History at the University of Amsterdam. This study demonstrated that it must have been Vlamingstraat at the site of the present-day numbers 40-42. The exhibition enables you to track every step of the study. It is not a Whodunit but a Where is it, says Patrick van Mil, Director of Museum Prinsenhof Delft, and we present theories of other historians too. People have been looking for this location ever since 1921, when The Little Street became part of the Rijksmuseums collection. ... More |

In this science-fiction scenario, more than eighty masterpieces from three European collections are united in a temporary transnational museum. It features works dating from the 1920s to the present by such prominent artists as Louise Bourgeois, Marcel Duchamp, Isa Genzken, On Kawara, Claes Oldenburg, Sigmar Polke, Bridget Riley, Andy Warhol and many more. New York's World Trade Center defends Belgian tribute; Confusion that lights looked wrong | | Metallica's "Master of Puppets" first metal recording in United States historical registry | | Russian President Vladimir Putin's wax figure introduced in Serbia's wax museum | The spire of One World Trade Center is lit on March 22, 2016 in New York City. Spencer Platt/Getty Images/AFP. NEW YORK (AFP).- New York's World Trade Center was lit black, yellow and red in solidarity with Belgium over the Brussels attacks, a spokesman said Wednesday despite confusion that the lights looked wrong. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that the 408-foot (124-meter) spire on the tallest building in the United States would be lit in the colors of the Belgian flag after dark. It was to be an especially poignant tribute given the World Trade Center is built on the site of the 9/11 attacks on New York. But a series of photographs published by AFP and other media showed the colors to be blue, white and red -- those of the French flag that lit up the Trade Center after the November attacks in Paris. It sparked remarks on social media from observers, and media speculation that the Trade Center had made a mistake. "Making lights appear black is always tricky," Steve Coleman, spokesman for the Port Authority, which owns and runs the ... WASHINGTON (AFP).- Metallica's album "Master of Puppets" on Wednesday became the first heavy metal recording chosen for preservation by the Library of Congress due to its historical importance. The US government-run library's National Recording Registry each year selects 25 pieces judged to be "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and keeps the best-quality originals to safeguard for future generations. "Master of Puppets," released in 1986 as the third album by Metallica, "shows the group moving away from its thrash metal history and reputation and exploring new ideas," the Library of Congress said in a statement. "Thrash, a reaction against the pop metal of the early 1980s, aimed to renew metal by emphasizing speed and aggression," it said, while crediting "Master of Puppets" with also aiming to "break free of thrash orthodoxy." BELGRADE (AFP).- A Serbian museum introduced Wednesday a wax figure of Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a sign of gratitude to the Balkan country's traditional ally, Tanjug news agency reported. The figure was introduced at a ceremony attended by a few thousand people including Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic who said Russia was a "strong political partner" and praised Putin's support for Serbia. In the 1990s, Serbia was a pariah state under international sanctions due to the aggressive wartime policy of then strongman Slobodan Milosevic and eventually was bombed by NATO over his violent Kosovo policy. Kosovo in 2008 declared independence from Serbia, a move recognised by more than 100 countries, including the United States and most of EU countries. Both Serbia and Russia rejected the move, and Moscow has threatened to veto Kosovo's UN membership bid at the UN Security Council. Putin is the first foreigner ... More |

In her earlier series of still lifes Early American and 1606 1907, Core examined the play between photographic truth and painted illusion.
