PARIS.- Galerie Paris-Beijing presents Revealing Disappearance, Liu Bolin latest solo exhibition witnessing the artists engagement on environmental issues. Since the beginning of his career, ecology has been a central topic of Liu Bolins artistic production. In 2011 he braved the polluted waters of the Yellow River in one of the most industrialized regions of his country, two years ago he organized a collective performance at the edge of a large artificial forest aimed to stop the spreading of the Gobi desert in the Northern territories of China. More recently he stood among piles of garbage in a waste collection center in Bangalore, India. WASHINGTON (AFP).- Pulitzer-prize winning poet John Ashbery, a post-modern American trailblazer, has died at age 90 in Hudson, New York, his family told US media Sunday. The experimental vanguardist was sometimes accused of writing poems that were at times less than accessible to a wider audience. "Well, I'm told that they're not," he said in a 2005 interview with NPR. "What they are is about the privacy of all of us, and the difficulty of our own thinking," he said. LONDON.- Ronchini Gallery presents the first UK solo exhibition of American artist Samantha Bittman. The exhibition features twelve new wall based works and one site-specific mural. Bittmans practice developed from her fascination of weaving and the instinctive relationship between pictorial image and woven structure. Bound by the physical parameters of her 12-harness floor loom, she weaves, by hand, a graphically driven pattern, which is then stretched over a traditional wooden frame before having acrylic paint embedded onto each thread. Using the woven guidelines, she takes the graphical complexity one step further by carefully matching the colour of the paint to each individual strand. With an approach similar to artists of a century ago represented by my gallery, Aneta pushes the boundaries of the ceramic medium, using clay and color to evoke sensuous objects that are layered in transformation, says gallery principal Jason Jacques. COLOGNE.- In 2018, the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig will recognize the artist Haegue Yang with the Wolfgang Hahn Prize. Since 1994, the prize has been awarded annually for an oeuvre that has consistently and substantially continued to develop and is recognized by international experts. The award ceremony will take place during Art Cologne on April 17, 2018. The prize includes the acquisition of a work or series of works by the artist for the collection of the Museum Ludwig. In addition, an exhibition will be realized and a publication will be released. Haegue Yang was born in 1971 in Seoul, South Korea. She lives there and in Berlin. Paola won the competition with her entry Daydream in Blue and will be awarded a solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. The winner is announced today as part of the exhibition From Selfie to Self-Expression, presented by Huawei, which closes tomorrow after enjoying a 3-month extended run due to its popularity with visitors. HONG KONG.- Sun Museum will present the captioned exhibition from 5 September to 2 December 2017. A selection of 87 exquisite boxes of the Han and Qing dynasties, on loan from local private collectors, is the first display of its kind in Hong Kong. The exhibition is supported by Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Chinese Temples Committee and Park Hotel Property Management Limited. The boxes vary in shape ranging from the orthodox circular, square to the extraordinary, viz. clamshell, duck and tree trunk. A 1945 Indian Scout, £21,000; Lot 31 a Harley-Davidson Sportster at three times its pre-sale estimate with £7,650; and Lots 2, 3, 4 & 5 derelict factory finds selling for over £7,000 in total. GLASGOW.- A watch at the centre of a successful public appeal to find Sid is ready to go on display at Riverside Museum, Glasgow. The new panel was unveiled in front of the family who kept the watch safe for almost 80 years and the family of the original owner, who met for the first time. Rob Hutchinson, whose father Gerald Gerry Middleton Hutchinson had treasured the watch until his death in 2015, travelled from Canada for the special occasion, which took place on the 78th anniversary of the sinking of TSS Athenia. The ship was attacked on the day World War 2 was declared in September 1939, becoming the first maritime casualty of the war, claiming 122 lives. Sid Worrall, ships cook, was hard at work frying fish when Athenia was torpedoed. He was horribly burned by boiling fat and steam. To mark this occasion, the gallery is showing a selection of Walkers works from the 1980s in our Lucerne gallery. Until his early death in 2000, the conceptual artist Aldo Walker was a great influence on both the local and national art scenes in Switzerland in the 1980s and 1990s. After training as an electrician, Walker took over his fathers business in 1964 and ran it as a one-man operation until 1979. He began producing his conceptual works of art in the 1960s. HELSINKI.- The Ateneum Art Museum, which is part of the Finnish National Gallery, has received for its collection, from a private donor, a painting by the artist Pekka Halonen, entitled Carrying water (1911). Information about the donation was received in the end of August, and the work will be available for the public to see on Tuesday 5 September.
