PORTSMOUTH.- After a six-month closure and a multi-million pound investment, the Mary Rose Trust today unveiled to the world the Mary Rose, Henry VIIIs favourite warship, 471 years to the day after it was sunk. The ceremony held at the ships home, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, included a spectacular kabuki drop, revealing the ship after having undergone 23 years of extensive treatment, including state-of-the-art innovations, which has changed the face of conservation. Revealed for the first time ever was a carved wooden Tudor rose, which was discovered at the time of the second excavation in 2005 but only recently identified as the original emblem of the ship, and the first figurehead of its kind, as depicted in 16th-century drawings in the Anthony Scroll. NEW YORK, NY.- Billy Name, the in-house photographer at Andy Warhols studio and one of the few surviving members of the Factory, died at the age of 76 in Highland, New York on Monday, July 18. Born William Linich Jr. in 1940, Name grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1958 he settled in Manhattan and became involved in the avant garde downtown art scene working for the Fluxus group, Yoko Ono and LaMonte Young. He met Warhol in 1959 and it was Warhol who renamed him Billy Name. Besides being Warhols assistant, he was also his lover. While known as the Factorys photographer, Name was the one who redecorated Warhols the space by covering the walls in silver spray paint and aluminum foil. The space was hailed as the place to see and be seen and attacted New Yorks demimonde. LONDON.- On Sunday 17 July 2016, a grand piano was suspended over Television Centre, the iconic former home of the BBC in White City, by the artist Catherine Yass as one of eight artist residencies at the west London site. Chosen from over 360 submissions to an open call, each artist has responded to a brief to create a unique experience in the site's East Tower, which is set for demolition and redevelopment later in the year. The Israeli artist, who has led a revival of his instrument and regularly plays premier classical venues, posted the first of five movements of his "InstaConcerto."
