LSU returned lots of veteran players this season. Jayden Daniels, Harold Perkins, Malik Nabers, Mekhi Wingo and Mason Taylor to name a few. But the Tigers are still counting on freshmen in key roles, more and more as the season goes on. Instead of faltering, players like Whit Weeks are starting and flourishing. And even backup running back Kaleb Jackson is making his mark with a trucking of a Mississippi State player that's gone viral and drawing comparisons to Leonard Fournette — with notice from Fournette himself. It all adds up to a potentially even stronger LSU team going into Saturday's home game with Arkansas in Tiger Stadium. The Tigers and Razorbacks meet at 6 p.m. on ESPN. We've also got your kickoff time and TV assignment for next Saturday's potentially even bigger game at Ole Miss. Unfortunately, no news on LSU safety Greg Brooks, who coach Brian Kelly said missed this past Saturday's 41-14 win at Mississippi State because of what Kelly called a medical emergency. Kelly gave what few details he could while understandably respecting Brooks' right to medical privacy. But the fact that Kelly couldn't give a timetable for Brooks' potential return is a concern. Back to Daniels. His play against the Bulldogs earned him SEC co-offensive player of the week honors with Nabers as he went 30 of 34 for 361 yards and scored four total touchdowns. Daniels is on track to have one of the very best two-year runs in LSU history and is making a case that he's the top quarterback in the SEC. Our Sheldon Mickles has an early scouting report on Arkansas, which is coming off a 38-31 home loss to BYU. And he also tells us about an LSU men's basketball assistant who is leaving for the NBA's G League. Finally, former Tiger Mondo Duplantis broke his own pole vault world record this weekend in Eugene, Oregon. We've got all the details right here. That's all for today. We're here every day with our LSU newsletter updates. So phone a friend and tell them to subscribe as well. They will be eternally grateful, trust me. Scott Rabalais |
