An experimental treatment made from a plant virus is effective at protecting against a broad range of metastatic cancers in mice, shows a new study from the University of California San Diego. A landmark study by the DZD, published in ‘The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology’, sheds new light on the heterogeneity of type 2 diabetes. The researchers employed an innovative algorithm to stratify people with type 2 diabetes using routine data and thus visualize the metabolic diversity of diabetes. A team of researchers studied birds living in the Zhoushan Archipelago – the largest chain of islands in China to try to characterize the consequences of pollution and climate change. Birds were more evolutionarily similar on smaller, more isolated islands than on larger, less remote places with farms and human settlements. Scientists propose that island species may be better at tolerating human environments. Researchers have identified the mechanism that has allowed for the longevity of a deadly strain of cholera bacteria. The bacteria employ a two-part defense system where a protein and an enzyme work together to destroy foreign plasmid DNA. |
