Jayden Daniels is having one of the all-time great seasons for an LSU quarterback, second only to Joe Burrow's Heisman Trophy-winning turn in 2019. He ranks in the top three nationally in passing, passing efficiency, total offense, points responsible for and ranks fifth among quarterbacks in yards per game rushing. Ah, Daniels rushing ability. It's part of his Superman cape (faster than a locomotive!), making him as ESPN described him as "the scariest dual-threat in the country." But his running ability is also his Kryptonite. In his two years at LSU, it's usually where he's gotten shaken up, as was the case at Missouri on Saturday when he took a hard shot to the ribs in the end zone at the end of a touchdown run that was nullified by a penalty. Fortunately, Daniels was OK. Coach Brian Kelly gave him a favorable forecast as LSU begins Auburn week and takes on the SEC West's other Tigers in Tiger Stadium (6 p.m., ESPN). That's good news. Daniels has become one of the nation's most spectacular players. But slide, Jayden. Slide. The news continues, as LSU safety Greg Brooks has been transferred from a Baton Rouge hospital to St. Jude in Memphis for continued treatment of his brain cancer affliction. As always, Greg deserves to remain in our thoughts and prayers. Please note in Sheldon Mickles' story that Tuesday, Walk-On's restaurants restaurants in the Baton Rouge area will be hosting an event to support Brooks. Army visits Tiger Stadium next Saturday for the first time. We've got the kickoff time and TV network assignment for you. In my column today, I'm dispensing midterm grades to the Tigers ... and their coaches. As you can imagine, those grades cover a wide dispersal pattern. Finally, We've got odds and info galore on the LSU-Auburn game. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading and subscribing and following us on Twitter or X or whatever Elon Musk decides to call it these days. We're here every single day so phone a friend and listen to the appreciation in their voice. Until next time, Scott Rabalais |
