2.4M workers filed unemployment claims last week The US Department of Labor on Thursday reported that 2.4 million workers filed jobless claims last week, for a nine-week total of more than 38 million new claims. A study from Indiana University researchers found that work stress can literally kill you, but it also determined that workers with more autonomy were better able to process that stress. "When job demands are greater than the control afforded by the job or an individual's ability to deal with those demands, there is a deterioration of their mental health and, accordingly, an increased likelihood of death," Erik Gonzalez-Mule, lead author, said.
