Balancing the benefits and risks of biometric authentication

Passwords are out, biometrics are in. That’s the message in the authentication space. But while the prospect of using a fingerprint to access an application instead of a password filled with special characters likely excites many people, questions abound around using biometrics for authentication.

Some common concerns are around privacy (Who or what entities will have access to the biometrics), accuracy (Just how accurate are biometrics at authenticating a person) and security (Is there a spoof-proof biometric).
