Good morning, LSU fans. With another steamer of a day in store for us, why not just sit back and relax (while staying cool) and catch up on lots of news before being overcome by the heat and humidity? Baseball With the College World Series in full swing, Jay Johnson's team saw some roster movement Monday. Reserve infielder Will Safford entered the transfer portal at almost the same time starting Baylor shortstop Jack Pineda announced via Twitter that he's set to become a Tiger. Football While it may be hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk, it doesn't mean we can't dream about cool weather, which columnist Scott Rabalais was apparently doing when he sat down and penned a column on early bowl projections. If nothing else, it may help you think about crisp, fall days ... about 4½ months from now. Rabalais also lets us know how many days it is until the season opener against Florida State with an excerpt from his book "LSU By the Numbers" featuring All-American tackle Lance Smith (No. 75). Administration Athletic director Scott Woodward is losing a key member of his staff with word Monday that Stephanie Rempe, who is second in command as Woodward's executive deputy A.D./COO, will be named A.D. at Nevada. Title IX Speaking of women in sports, in Monday's print editions we examined 50 years of Title IX since it was signed into law by former President Richard Nixon. The feature includes a piece on female athletes reflecting on changes — past and present — how former LSU two-sport star Joanette Batiste Boutte sees challenges now, a look at LSU's history with the anti-sex discrimination law and, finally, our list of 25 Louisiana women of influence in sports. Gymnastics It was purely coincidental, but we also had a feature on former Tigers gymnast Susan Jackson and her career at LSU leading up to her induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. Men's basketball Matt McMahon now has 11 of 13 allowed nonconference games accounted for this season upcoming season after adding Wake Forest for a matchup to be played in Atlanta. Thanks for reading. Until next time, Sheldon Mickles |
