Bayou cleanup isn't yet as-promised Parish governments whose jurisdictions border Bayou Manchac agreed last year on a play to clear out the stream after recent floods, but nearby residents noticed lately that only the Ascension Parish portion was being cleared. David Mitchell tracked down why. Lights out A funny thing happened as Baton Rouge was preparing for New Year's Eve celebrations last Friday, including the illumination of a downtown "red stick." The lights went out. Again. Frustrated at what seems to be a fairly regular occurrence, city officials have questions for Entergy about why power outages are happening and what can be done about them. Paul Cobler reports. One-tenth A man who faced 20 years in prison for a sexual assault that occurred in 2003 was sentenced yesterday to two years. With credit for time incarcerated ahead of sentencing, he'll be out of prison soon. The victim was 15 at the time of the assault, meaning she's spent more than half her life seeking justice. Joe Gyan has our story. The matter didn't enter the court system until DNA evidence emerged in 2014. |
