BCAM Podcast: Let's write together the Mathematics for the future | S01 E03 - Juan de la Cierva

Judith Muñoz Matute, Postdoctoral Fellow at BCAM, selected to join the European Mathematical Society Young Academy 2024-2027 Committee

Judit Muñoz Matute, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Mathematical Design, Modelling, and Simulations line at BCAM, has been selected to join the committee of the European Mathematical Society (EMS) Young Academy for the period 2024 - 2027.

EMYA provides a platform for the next generation of mathematicians to discuss and plan the future of European mathematics, organize activities through the European Mathematical Society, and advise EMS on its actions and priorities.

Gran Jet d'Or de Genève Award

The Grand Jet d'Or de Genève Award is a collaboration between the AXA Research Fund and Geneva Health Forum. The award seeks to support innovative research projects focusing on understanding and mitigating the adverse effects of pollution on human health.

The call will be open from March 11 to April 21, 2024, midnight (CET). Applications must be submitted online in English.

BCAM's researcher Miguel Aguilera awarded with "la Caixa" Foundation's grant to carry out postdoctoral studies

”la Caixa” Foundation has granted 105 new doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships to outstanding researchers to carry out their projects at universities and research centers in Spain and Portugal. The INPhINIT doctoral and Junior Leader postdoctoral fellowships from the ”la Caixa” Foundation have the dual objective of retaining and attracting talent to boost research excellence in these countries. Among the awardees is researcher Miguel Aguilera Lizárraga, who has chosen the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics for his postdoctoral studies in Mathematical and Computational Biology. Jose A. Lozano, Scientific Director at BCAM, also attended the awards.

PI(E) DAY at BCAM

March 3rd is The International Day of Mathematics and, at BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, we could not pass up the opportunity to celebrate in a big way!PI Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π, (14th of the 3rdmonth). At BCAM, it was also Pie Day! An event full of fun, flavor and, of course, Math: the best way for sharing & celebrating together

Javier de la Bodega carried out a course at the Aula BCAM-UPV/EHU

Javier de la Bodega , PhD student at the BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, gave a course at the Aula BCAM (UPV/EHU), under the title "The arc-Floer conjecture: When arithmetic meets Hamiltonian systems".

This talk introduced students to the Monodromy and arc-Floer conjectures and explain their current status.

Meeting with the scientific and technological agents of Bizkaia

José Antonio Lozano, Scientific Director of BCAM - Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, attended the meeting of the General Deputy Elixabete Etxanobe with the scientific-technological agents of Bizkaia. Diputacion Foral de Bizkaia recognizes with this encounter the contribution of technology and research centers to the competitiveness and business development of the Territory.

BCAM Naukas

Miguel Aguilera (Ikerbasque Research Fellow) and Daniela Moreno (PhD Student) participated in the monologues that took place in the afternoon BCAM NAUKAS on the occasion of the celebration of the World Mathematics Day a.k.a Pi Day.

Miguel shared with the more than 120 attendees, the monologue "Mathematics, the arrow of time and artificial and biological minds" and Daniela was part of BCAM NAUKAS with "Journey towards the modeling of a NanoUniverse".

Parekoen Topaketa

Cristina Galán, PhD at BCAM, participated Bizilabe Bilbao’s Parekoen Topaketa. This event connects professional women from science and technology related jobs with 90 young students. Together, they talked about the challenges scientists face in their work activity; while the people explained them the STEM projects they are working on in Bizilabe.

Luz Roncal participated in the IKUR Quantum Talks together with Professor Artur Ekert

Luz Roncal, Ikerbasque Research at BCAM, accompanied Professor Artur Ekert in his IKUR Quantum Talks at the Bidebarrieta Library in Bilbao.

Under the umbrella of the Basque Government´s IKUR quantum initiative, leading international experts in quantum technologies are giving outreach talks in Bilbao and Donostia. This time, in a talk that was a success, Professor Artur Ekert traced the fascinating path of Bell´s inequalities in the field of quantum theory.

Matematikhariak

In order to disseminate and approach mathematics from an early age, BCAM will launch a new edition of Matematikhariak, opening its doors in April to the following schools: IES Kantauri, IES Xabier Zubiri Manteo, Escolapios, Eibar BHI, and Urdaneta.
