Be Gentle with People Right Now

This week the CDC released new guidelines saying that vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks outdoors and in most indoor environments. With this announcement, it seems the end of the pandemic could be in sight. It’s a big relief, but instead of jubilance, many are feeling fatigue. It’s been a long slog. Many people in your church have dealt with illness and even the loss of a loved one. All have grappled with disrupted schedules and isolation. Even if the finish line of the pandemic is in sight many will be limping, rather than sprinting, across it.

Given the current fragile emotional state of many people, I appreciated this piece on providing Pastoral Care for Bruised Reeds and Smoldering Wicks. Drawing on Paul’s relationship with Epaphroditus, it shows why right “the most powerful way we represent the Good Shepherd to others is through the grace we offer when they are at their most vulnerable.”
