The home of contemporary craft and creative courses on Brighton Beach.
Out of the Blu We are delighted to welcome Sophie of Bahari Blu to be one of our family of makers here at Atelier Beside the Sea. Sophie founded Bahari Blu to combine two of her life-long passions:- beach combing and jewellery-making. Incorporating gem-like sea glass elements, each authentically surf tumbled by decades beneath the waves, each piece is an absolute one off. She also works with skilled silversmiths in the coastal town of Lamu, in Northern Kenya, who hand work elements of reclaimed ceramics into unique pendants. Come and see the ever-changing collection in the gallery which is - appropriately enough - just a stone's throw from the shore here on Brighton beach. |

Cut & Paste continues Our exhibition of extraordinary works in paper continues in arch two, and we are are loving these intriguing collages by Sue Williams A’Court. These pieces are from the Anonymous Collage Series:- a series of experimental collage works made with mixed media and found paper from old books and manuscripts. The series is inspired by rare Tantric devotional paintings collected by the poet and writer Frank Andre Jamme. The ritualistic images were created anonymously by contemporary craftsmen in northwest India, who copied existing symbols from ancient manuscripts onto salvaged paper and pinned them up in corners of their homes as visual aids to further their practice of meditation. Fascinating stuff! Come and see all the works by Sue, and all the other talented artists in Cut & Paste, before the 14th July. |
