Beach volleyball off to good start in NCAAs; plus baseball, softball, track

Good morning, Tiger fans.

With the baseball and softball teams not playing until Friday night, we don't have a lot this morning.

But what we do have is big for the newest, and one of the more consistent, teams on campus.

Beach volleyball

With its back to the wall, it could have been a one-and-done for LSU beach at the NCAA championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on Wednesday.

But the Tigers came through with a clutch win over Cal in single-elimination play to advance to Friday's quarterfinals and the start of double-elimination play, where it will meet UCLA.

Baseball

With just nine games left in SEC play, LSU is trying to make its best pitch to host an NCAA regional and Jay Johnson's Tigers appear to be on the right path.

Softball

Beth Torina's team is also eyeing the postseason with its final regular-season series against Mississippi State beginning Friday night in StarkVegas.

Starting with some seeding scenarios for next week's SEC tournament, we've got some notes and quotes from the Tigers as they look to finish on a high note.

Track and field

Finally, the fourth-ranked LSU women's team had two athletes on the final regular-season watch list for The Bowerman watch, which came out Wednesday.

That's about it for now!
