Take heed, there’s a new private equity firm muscling its way into Australia’s deal-making scene.

Street Talk understands Perennial Private to Public portfolio manager Ryan Sohn has departed the fund he helped co-found and is set to strike out with a shop of his own.

Sources said Sohn has teamed up with Seek Investments managing director and former Tiger Global operating partner Jason Lenga, as well as former Qube Holdings chief financial officer Paul Lewis to launch Premier Capital Partners (PCP Growth) – a private capital firm focused on hunting down mid-market growth opportunities in the technology sector.

This column understands PCP has kicked off a fundraising effort and is targeting a $30 million to $50 million fund, with a $75 million hard cap. The trio have been in front of family offices and high-net-worth investors with a 24-page presentation highlighting their track record of investing in private growth companies, investment strategy and a potential pipeline of opportunities.

Sources said PCP already has demand exceeding $50 million and is expected to close the book early by the end of September.

Comstock Fuels Corporation, a subsidiary of $US3.1 billion New York-listed Comstock Inc, has kicked off a $US2.5 billion ($3.7 billion) raise via its Asia Pacific exclusive licence holder to manufacture three biofuel refineries across Australia’s east coast.

The largest of the three in Mulgrave QLD should do $US1.1 billion revenue and $US359 million earnings.

The sharemarket ended a touch lower on Tuesday, weighed by losses in consumer-related and mining stocks as investors reassessed the impact of further falls in commodity prices.
