New Changes to the Handicap System
Dear members
Please note the following changes to the Handicap system as of the 1st October 2019.
1. 24 hours to enter a score before receiving a penalty
The time frame for entering a score before incurring a penalty has been reduced from 72 hours to 24 hours. Failure to enter a score within 24 hours (from 23h00 on the day of the round) will result in a penalty and the late score entered will be adjusted to the lowest differential in the player’s last 20.
2. Average of the best 8 of the last 20 Score Differentials
Your Handicap Index calculation will be based on the average of your best 8 Score Differentials from your last 20 scores, with no further adjustment. All Handicap Indexes will be recalculated overnight on the 30th September 2019. The impact will be different for each golfer, so your Handicap Index on 1 October 2019 might be slightly higher or lower than your current Handicap Index, due to the combination of the average of the best 8 of the last 20 scores and the dropping of the 0.96 multiplier.
3. Maximum Score allowed on a hole changes to Net Double Bogey
When entering your score for Handicap purposes, the maximum score allowed, and what you have to record for a hole where you ‘ring out’, is a Net Double Bogey (Net Two Over Par or Zero Stableford Points – as shown in the table below).
4. 9-Hole Course Handicap
When playing nine holes you must use your 9-hole Course Handicap based on the nine holes you elect to play. This 9-hole Course Handicap can be looked up on a chart at the club or on the HNA App.
5. 9-Hole scores and incomplete rounds
If you have played between 9 holes and 13 holes, you must enter a 9-hole score. If you have played 14 holes or more, you must enter your Adjusted Gross Score for the holes played and add par plus any Handicap Strokes you are entitled to for the remaining unplayed holes, based on your Course Handicap. Enter this Adjusted Gross Score as an 18-hole score.
The 9-hole calculation will automatically be completed by the system by taking your Gross Score for the 9 holes you played, adding par for the second nine, plus your handicap strokes for these 9 holes, plus 1 additional stroke. This Gross Score will then be used to calculate a differential in the same way as an 18-hole score.
6. Holes not completed – most likely score
Where possible, players should always putt out and complete the hole. If, however, you do not finish a hole and you are on the green and within 1.5 metres of the hole, record 1 extra shot. If you are between 1.5 metres and 20 metres from the hole, record 2 or 3 strokes, depending on the difficulty of the green and the player’s ability. If you are more than 20 metres, then add 3 or 4 strokes, depending on the difficulty of the green and player’s ability.
7. Golfers are required to ensure a round is Registered / Opened before playing and before entering a score
Golfers need to ensure a round is opened / registered on the system before they play. The clubs are encouraged to open all rounds (including those for affiliated visitors) on the club systems or terminals. If, however, the club does not open the round prior to play, the golfer must open a round on his/her HNA phone app or on the Handicap Terminal before play. (This option will be available on the App and Terminal from October 1).
A score may not be entered without opening a round. Any score entered for which the round was opened only after completion of the round will be flagged in the system for possible investigation by your Club Handicap Committee. All valid rounds (see section 5.6 of the GolfRSA Rules for invalid rounds), played with a marker and under the Rules of Golf, must be entered on the system. This now includes all Match Play scores.
8. The exceptional score will be changed to
If a player’s score differential is 7 to 9.9 shots below their Handicap Index, their Handicap Index will be reduced by 1 shot. If a player’s score differential is 10 or more shots below their Handicap Index, their Handicap Index will be reduced by 2 shots.
9. The maximum Handicap Index will change to 54 for men and women |

Message form Golf Data
Monday, 9 September was the first day of our three-day spring treatment exercise.
All the tees, surrounds and fairways were double verticut, hollow tined and the material dragged in and fertilized.
While the greens were hollow tined, they were also top-dressed with USGA spec sand and fertilized with a granular fertilizer to improve the recovery, grow in period and the health of the turf profile.
The course has recovered well after the spring treatment, with the higher soil temperature and the occasional rainfall further improving the turf conditions.
The cart path upgrade at the eighteenth fairway and green complex is complete and in use.
September saw a further 23mm rain for the month and 11mm rain around the hollow tining treatment was measured in our manual rainfall system.

The new booking system has arrived!
We are pleased to inform you that you can now resister on the new Club Master booking system.
The system is LIVE !!
Follow the steps below to register on the site & app.
How to register on the site:
1. Open the site http://www.teesheet.co.za
2. Go to the "Member Sign In" section on the right hand side of the screen.
3. Select your Golf Club from the list of available clubs.
4. Type in your South African ID number that the club has on record for you. This is not your SAGA number it is your South African Citizen ID number as it appears in your green ID book. For foreign members this will be your Passport Number the club has on record of you.
5. Click on the "Sign In" button. It will give an error and then you can click on the "Send me my Password".
6. Your password will be sent to you via email.
7. Enter your Password on the sight and click "Log In"  Once signed in, the portal menu will appear in the right hand side of the screen.

1. DOWNLOADING THE APP
a. For Android phones, go to the Google Play Store and search for Clubmaster. The Clubmaster Member Portal APP will be displayed in the list of available APPS. Click on the APP link on the screen to be directed to the install section.
b. For Apple devices go to the APP store and search for Clubmaster
c. Click on the Install button
2. REGISTER FOR THE ONLINE PORTAL
To make use of the APP you must first register and receive your password. If you are a current user of the www.teesheet.co.za site you do not need to register again and will use the same ID and password you make use of on the website and can skip the steps to get your password.
3. LINK YOUR MOBILE APP TO YOUR CLUB ONCE REGISTERED FOR THE ONLINE PORTAL
Once you have registered and received your password, you can register your APP with your club.
a. Click on the hamburger menu in the top left corner of your mobile device to open the Menu Screen
b. Click on “Link Your Club Portal” On the link screen you select your golf club, enter your ID number as well as the password that was mailed to you.
c. Click on register to complete your registration. A message will confirm your registration
Congratulations. You have now registered your APP and are ready to explore and use all the added functionality that the APP provides club members.

| RULE OF THE WEEK
Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person, Animal or Object; Deliberate Actions to Affect Ball in Motion
This rule applies any time a ball in play is in motion (whether after a stroke or otherwise), except when a ball has been dropped in a relief area and has not yet come to rest.
Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence
- No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment.
Exception – Ball Played on Putting Green in Stroke Play:
If the player’s ball in motion hits another ball that is at rest on the putting green and both balls were on the putting green before the stroke, the player gets the general penalty of (two penalty strokes).
Ball Must Be Played as It lies
if a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence, the ball must be played as it lies, except in two situations:
Exception 1 – When Ball Played from Anywhere except Putting Green Comes to Rest on Any Person, Animal or Moving outside Influence: The player must not play the ball as it lies. Instead, the player must take relief:
- When Ball Is Anywhere Except on Putting Green.
The player must drop the original ball or another ball in this relief area. - Reference Point: The estimated point right under where the ball first came to rest on the person, animal or moving outside influence.
- Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One club-length, but with these limits:
- Limits on Location of Relief Area:
- Must be in the same area of the course as the reference point, and
- Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point.
- When Ball Is on Putting Green.
The player must place the original ball or another ball on the estimated spot right under where the ball first came to rest on the person, animal or moving outside influence, using the procedures for replacing a ball.
Exception 2 –
When Ball Played from Putting Green Accidentally Hits Any Person, Animal or Movable Obstruction (Including Another Ball in Motion) on the Putting Green:
The stroke does not count and the original ball or another ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated), in these two cases: - Ball in Motion Hits Another Ball at Rest or Ball-Marker on Putting Green. The stroke counts and the ball must be played as it lies. Whether a penalty applies in stroke play).
- Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Flagstick or Person Attending Flagstick.
Penalty for Playing Incorrectly Substituted Ball or Playing Ball from a Wrong Place is in breach - A penalty applies when a breach of a Rule results from a player’s own actions or the actions of his or her caddie
- A penalty will also apply when:
Another person takes an action that would breach the Rules if taken by the player or caddie and that person does so at the player’s request or while acting with the player’s authority. - The player sees another person about to take an action concerning the player’s ball or equipment that he or she knows would breach the Rules if taken by the player or caddie and does not take reasonable steps to object or stop it from happening.
When Penalty Applies to a Player - A player gets the general penalty if he or she deliberately deflects or stops any ball in motion.
- This is true whether it is the player’s own ball or a ball played by an opponent or by another player in stroke play.
Exception – Ball Moving in Water: There is no penalty if a player lifts his or her ball moving in water in temporary water or in a penalty area when taking relief under in Foursomes, either partner may act for the side and action by the partner is treated as action of the player; in Four-Ball, either partner may act for the side and action by the partner concerning the player’s ball or equipment is treated as action of the player. Place from Where Deliberately Deflected or Stopped Ball Must Be Played If it is known or virtually certain that a player’s ball in motion was deliberately deflected or stopped by a person (whether or not the ball has been found), it must not be played as it lies. Instead, the player must take relief:
(1) Stroke Made from Anywhere except Putting Green. The player must take relief based on the estimated spot where the ball would have come to rest if not deflected or stopped: - When Ball Would Have Come to Rest Anywhere on Course Except on Putting Green. The player must drop the original ball or another ball in this relief area
- Reference Point: The estimated spot where the ball would have come to rest.
- Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One club-length, but with these limits:
- Limits on Location of Relief Area:
- Must be in the same area of the course as the reference point, and
- Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point.
- When Ball Would Have Come to Rest on Putting Green. The player must place the original ball or another ball on the estimated spot where the ball would have come to rest, using the procedures for replacing a ball
- Stroke Made from Putting Green. The stroke does not count, and the original ball or another ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated)
