President Joe Biden spoke out Monday morning to reassure Americans there is no need for panic after federal agencies stepped in following the failures of two big banks over the weekend. "Americans can have confidence that the banking system is safe. Your deposits will be there when you need them," Biden said from the White House. The federal government said Sunday that all depositors at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank would be protected and be able to get access to their money Monday morning, with the funds coming from special funds set up by the nation's banks and from the sale of the banks' assets, not from taxpayers. "No losses will be borne by the taxpayers," Biden repeated Monday. (learn more) |

On Monday morning, President Biden pointed the finger of blame at the Trump administration for the failure of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank over the weekend, even as he praised the "solid economic accomplishments" made by his administration over the past two years. "During the Obama-Biden administration, we put in place tough requirements on banks ... to make sure that the crisis we saw in 2008 would not happen again. Unfortunately, the last administration rolled back some of these requirements," Biden remarked. Unlike in 2008, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has stated that Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank will not be receiving government bailouts. Some investors could think that now is the time to seek for tech companies to purchase rather than tech stocks to sell, given the tech sector's decline throughout 2022 and attempt at recovery this year. If you’re a sports fan, you know that officials can make some pretty questionable calls sometimes. Although some of them seem pretty bad, getting a tough call from an official from time-to-time is accepted as a normal part of playing sports. But for one umpire in a college baseball game, a call he made was so egregious, it came back to haunt him in a pretty bad way. The unnamed umpire was officiating a Southland Conference game when Davon Mims was at the plate with a 1-1 count and two outs left. On the next pitch, the umpire called a strike, but Mims questioned the call because he felt it should have been a ball. The game continued, but the umpire made a call so bad on the next pitch that his actions were "deemed detrimental to the conference and in violation of Section 3 Character and Conduct of the CCA Mechanics Manual for Baseball."
The umpire was suspended indefinitely due to his officiating, or lack thereof. Here’s why the call was so bad…and yes, there’s video to prove just how awful it was.

Texas sisters Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, Marina Perez Rios, and their friend Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, crossed the border to Mexico last month to sell clothes at a flea market. Now they are officially missing. The women haven't been heard from in about two weeks, and the story is only now receiving the spotlight after the abduction of four Americans last week garnered worldwide attention. The husband of one of the missing women says that he spoke to his wife by phone while she was traveling in Mexico, but has grown concerned because he has not been able to reach her since then.
