Seasonable warmth returns. Temperatures are warming toward the weekend. Sunny skies Friday with highs in the 60s across Minnesota. Showers and a few thunderstorms will spread into Minnesota and western Wisconsin Friday afternoon. Citing losses from the pandemic, U drops men's track, tennis, gymnastics. The University of Minnesota is announcing it will end men’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s gymnastics and men’s tennis as it slashes costs. The U is facing major losses from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Big Ten’s move to postpone football. Biden, Trump to visit Minnesota next Friday. Minnesota voters will see both Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden next Friday, Sept. 18. The campaigns for both candidates have announced visits on the day that absentee voting begins in Minnesota. Trump is due to hold an airport hangar rally in Bemidji. Biden hasn’t said yet where his appearance will be. Man sues MPD, saying a cop shot him with a tear gas canister. A 19-year-old man is suing Minneapolis police officials and the city after he alleges an officer shot him in the face with a tear gas canister. The complaint says an officer fired the canister when he and his mother were participating in a community cleanup three days after George Floyd's killing, and he posed no threat to police. The suit says the canister destroyed his right eye.
