Big milestone: ECI reaches 100.000 signatures

Great news: The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) "Start Unconditional Basic Incomes throughout the EU" has reached the first 100,000 signatures!

Have you already signed the initiative? Let's send a loud and clear sign to European lawmakers that a post-pandemic EU needs to rebuild on entirely new foundations! Remember: The aim is to collect 1.000.000 signatures before the end of this year!

The European Citizens' Initiative is more than just a petition. With the support of 1.000.000 European citizens it has the potential to trigger a legislative process – the EU's institutions would have a legal obligation to deal with the demand.

Due to the Covid-restrictions, the European Commission has also prolonged the time for collecting signatures by three months to 25 December 2021. That's also good news, but wider awareness of the ECI is needed now to attain the aim of one million signatures.

Other things you can do to support this ECI once you've signed it:

• get other groups, initiatives and organisations you‘re active with to put the ECI link in their newsletters;
• ask your local politicians to make a statement of support for the ECI, and then publicise it on social media;
• contact journalists, radio and TV stations asking them to report about unconditional basic income and this ECI.
