Mark Sisson

Hey, there.

I was talking to a friend the other day, and he was telling me about how he made a significant shift in his nutrition and fitness routine sometime in his mid-thirties. He's now in his mid-fifties.

Got me thinking about when I made big changes. Whether there were turning points in my nutritional habits.

Sure, I had my big "aha" moment when I realized that lots of carbs and grains were slowing me down, and a more ancestral way of life made me feel more like myself.

Other than that, the only other time I made sweeping changes was...always.

Throughout my life, I’ve collected ideas for self-experimentation by reading studies and listening to others talk about their choices. All of it together has—and continues to—inform the routine I follow to live the life I want.

A while back, my daily Big Ass Salads were a mainstay. That worked well, and I still enjoy them often. Now, I'm digging into the benefits of higher protein and that's been working for me.

I get questions about my supplements regimen, so I'm sharing what I took a few years ago, what's changed, and why. Here's a video on my supplements routine from a few years ago.

What has changed since I recorded this?

Omega-3s are even more important now that my eating habits have changed.

Eating higher protein means I have to pay better attention to my omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. Even though I had already prioritized omegas in my top three, I take extra care to remember to take my omegas now.

I label more events as stressors now.

Don't get the wrong idea. This doesn't mean that I'm overreacting about everyday things. What it does mean is that I recognize that everyday events that may not feel stressful are still taking a toll on my body.

One example is injury. When I'm healing from injury, there's more demand on my body for proper repair. Another example is riding in the car for over an hour. I don't feel stressed doing it – road trips are fun. But long car rides take a toll on us, physically.

So, I'll put a higher priority on Adaptogenic Calm to help my body through these types of things. I don't have to necessarily feel frazzled or panicked to know that my body is under stress.

I'm not particularly set in my ways. I'm always willing to try new things, if there's compelling evidence to do it, or if it simply sounds interesting.
