A historic Italian castle has swapped hands for $60 million, and the power behind the throne is none other than tech tycoon Bill Gates. Known as Castello di San Giorgio, the fortress-like structure was used for military defense centuries ago and will reportedly be transformed into a luxury resort. Meanwhile over in the South of France, the historic villa of Gates' childhood friend Paul Allen has sold for roughly $105 million to billionaire hedge fund manager Israel Englander.

According to a spokesperson for Cascade Assemet Management Company, reports that the tech billionaire purchased Villa San Giorgio in Portofino are not true.
