Bitcoin adoption has been growing rapidly the last few years. The rampant inflation rates worldwide have awakened the curiosity of the general public for hard assets to secure their wealth and purchasing power. 

However, unfortunately, the most common path for newcomers to exchange governmental currencies for sound and decentralized bitcoin money involves utilizing the service of centralized exchanges. Online exchanges are the most marketed, perceived convenient and fiat-aligned path to access bitcoin, however, they don’t necessarily align with Bitcoin’s ethos and ideology of true freedom for a better world.

Their main issue is centralization. Not only are they functioning as just another form of centralized banking, but they are also vulnerable to censorship and coercion by a greater power. Because of that, it is important to try to keep Bitcoin adoption local with Bitcoin meetups and communities.
