Building on My Commitment to Increase Economic Opportunity I’m building on my commitment to creating more economic opportunities across the United States. In my roles as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, I’m focused on advancing solutions that have the potential to unlock up to $1 trillion in investments for underserved communities. This effort is about building a future where every American has access to the tools and resources they need to succeed. I was honored to join Walter Davis, founding member of Peachtree Providence Partners, for an important conversation as part of my Opportunity Summit series. Together, we discussed how we can work toward breaking down the barriers that prevent many Americans from reaching their full potential. Our shared goal is clear: to ensure that everyone has the chance to achieve their version of the American Dream, regardless of their background. By investing in these communities, we can foster lasting economic growth and create new opportunities. It’s about ensuring every American has the chance to thrive and contribute to the success of our nation. Click here or on the image above to watch a recap of the Opportunity Summit. The Opportunity Summit is designed to establish an ecosystem that drives economic growth in underserved communities, building on the success of my Opportunity Zones from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. My goal is to create lasting economic opportunities that will continue to empower communities for generations to come, ensuring that all Americans have the chance to thrive and achieve their fullest potential. Following the Opportunity Summit, I welcomed Black business leaders to the United States Capitol to celebrate Black History Month! This gathering was an important moment to reflect on the achievements and contributions of Black Americans, while also reinforcing our commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for growth. As we close out Black History Month, I am reminded that the journey toward prosperity is ongoing. The progress we've made is the result of tireless efforts from countless individuals, but there is still much work to be done. Together, through initiatives like Opportunity Zones, we can continue building pathways to success for everyone, regardless of background or circumstance. This work is about more than just economic development; it's about creating a future where every American has the opportunity to live the American Dream. And I will continue pushing forward until we make that future a reality for all. Read more about the Opportunity Summit here! Reauthorizing the Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Program As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, I introduced legislation to reauthorize the Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration Program, which was last authorized in 2018. Reauthorizing this program will allow us to expand access to research and treatment for rare blood diseases and reduce the number of people in already overwhelmed emergency rooms. Senator Booker joined me in this effort, and we are glad to play a small role in easing the burden that SCD has on too many individuals and their families. Read more about the legislation here! |
