Hello QDT listeners, This week, Project Parenthood host Dr. Nanika Coor wrapped up her Black History Month mini-series, binge the episodes here. The series consisted of interviews with Black mental health experts with the aim of teaching listeners to raise kids with a healthy racial identity and an interest in racial justice. The theme of 2023’s Black History Month was “Black Resistance,” so each episode focused on the ways Black people have always been the driving force behind their own liberation. With expert guests like Dr. Abby Hasberry and Dr. Jennifer Noble, Dr. Coor illuminated the challenges faced by Black and multi-racial families and explains how parents can educate themselves and empower their kids. In every episode of Project Parenthood, Dr. Coor defies our society’s focus on the white mother as the default and instead spotlights the perspectives of Black parents, the lived experiences of Black children, and the expertise of Black therapists.
