There's drama on the Dakar Rally already

It’s the first Insider of 2022 and I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year as we anticipate another great season with Motorsport.com.

As is the tradition, we’re allowed some New Year wishes, so here are mine: I wish that the new-look Formula 1 cars create better racing from a more-level playing field with more opportunities for overtaking. I also want the same for NASCAR and its Next-Gen cars, and that the WRC and its hybrid Rally1 machinery delivers what potential new manufacturers are looking for to bolster its future.

Meantime, the first major event of the year is already underway in Saudi Arabia, with the Dakar Rally already serving up some major drama – including Audi’s disastrous start with its innovative new RS Q e-trons and a worrying road car explosion that could have been a malicious act against a competing team.

Follow all the developing storylines with us…
