How A $5 Bitcoin Purchase Cascaded Into A $1.5 Million Viral Movement

It all started with a tweet from @ArizonanHODL where he shared a bitcoin purchase order of $5, inadvertantly creating the gamification of stacking sats. Followed by @Happyclowntime and @Satskeeper with purchases of $6 and $7, the Stackchain emerged, with hundreds of Bitcoiners posting their purchases and adding up a new block to the newly created Twitter chain.
Speculation arose that the Stackchain might potentially be the single largest Twitter thread, but this isn't the most interesting part of it. In only eight weeks, the chain's participants went from a $5 dollar purchase to the stackheight 1,762, accumulating a total of 75 bitcoin, or about $1.5 million.

| Does Bitcoin have the potential to help Palestinians pursue economic freedom?
Bitcoin is certainly gaining ground worldwide in a very peculiar way. Those that need it the most are uniting to adopt it not as an investment opportunity but as a liberation instrument. Because of that, Bitcoin represents a great tool for Palestinians.
However, even though it is clear that Bitcoin is freedom technology, that adoption will continue and that Palestine (and other places) will benefit from increased adoption over time, we can also agree that the game is not entirely won. In a place where electricity (and thus access to the internet) can be intermittent, and is mostly controlled by Israel, informed Bitcoin adoption and education is key.
Nevertheless, as Alex Gladstein, CSO at the Human Rights Foundation puts it, “Bitcoin will continue to gain worldwide adoption because of its effectiveness as digital gold, but hidden within the prized Trojan Horse is a remarkable freedom technology.” |
