Good afternoon,

This is a breaking news bulletin.

We knew Nicola Sturgeon was likely to bring in further coronavirus restrictions today and she has.

Pubs and restaurants in Scotland have been hit with a curfew from this weekend as part of a raft of new measures.

The new restrictions will come as a bitter blow for the hospitality industry and start from this Friday, lasting until October 25th.

Because of high levels of infections in the Central Belt, greater restrictions will be in place in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran, Lothians and Forth Valley.

There's a lot to digest today and updates are still coming in. To keep up to date follow our live blog here.

Our journalists will be working flat out to dissect, analyse and breakdown what all these developments mean for Scots and their families. Start on our homepage and you'll find a range of articles examining today's announcement.
