Columbia University began suspending students who defied orders to vacate their on-campus pro-Palestinian protest by 2 p.m. today. The school’s president said it would not divest from Israel, bucking a key demand from protesters.

The university had told student demonstratorsto vacate by the deadline or “be suspended pending further investigation” and barred from completing the spring semester.
