BREAKING: House passes bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday

The House on Wednesday voted 415-14 to make Juneteenth the 11th federal holiday. It commemorates June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, when a Union Army general informed Black residents they had been freed. The bill was first proposed last summer amid national protests over the murder of George Floyd, but it did not gain enough support.
