Aha! It’s an Alan Partridge garden

The highlight of RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival is, naturally, the gardens. Visit an array of Show Gardens filled with colour and texture. The RSPB and RHS Swift Garden highlights the species’ annual migration, created using plants that attract the insects on which the birds feed. And then - Aha! - there's the Alan Partridge Sound Bath Garden, designed by Steve Coogan's comedy character to celebrate the return of From the Oasthouse: The Alan Partridge Podcast on Audible.

Find out how the experts do it

So you know what you want your garden to look like, you're just not sure how to achieve it? RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival has a seriously impressive line-up of experts across the Get Growing Festival Stage, the How To Stage, and the Potting Shed Theatre.

Garden designer Joe Swift offers his top garden design tips, BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Adam Frost shows you how to get the most from your garden, and Arit Anderson talks urban horticulture, ideal if you’ve got a smaller space to work with. Experts in specific species such as orchids and fuchsias are on the programme too.

Stock up on plants and homewares

With all that inspiration flying around, it wouldn’t do to leave empty-handed. 200+ shopping stalls offer plants, as well as home decor items. Each Show Garden has a plant list, so if there's something you think would look great in your own garden, make a note of the name and find it in the Plant Village. No need to be weighed down by bags: There’s a Shop and Drop service run by charity Canine Partners, so you can leave your goodies in safe hands while you enjoy your day, and collect them at home time.

Fun for all the family

RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival is suitable for ages, and - excellent news, parents - under-16s go free! There's plenty to entertain younger visitors: Follow a Wombles-themed trail, featuring dried flower Womble sculptures, with prizes to be collected. Swing by the Skinny Jean Gardener Mini Festival where the children’s gardening presenter hosts interactive learning opportunities, and elsewhere, the Kingston Forest School offers hands-on nature activities for all ages. On the Saturday and Sunday, costume characters make an appearance, too.

Well-behaved dogs (one per booking) are welcome too, so take the whole family for a summer day out this July.
