On Tuesday 05/01/2021, BritCham Vietnam Executive Director Brian Bulloch and Deputy Consul-General and Head of Trade and Investment at The British Consulate General Sam Wood attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai. At the event was Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who delivered a speech and kicked off constructions by pressing the button to start the project.

The $4.6 billion first phase of the airport is set to be completed by 2025. It will be able to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo a year. Upon completion of all 3 phases in 2040, it will have four runways, four passenger terminals and auxiliaries to accommodate 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo every year. 80 percent of international passengers are expected to be handled by the new airport, thus allowing Tan Son Nhat airport to serve mostly domestic flights.
