New York City mayor Eric Adams has received his first paycheck in the form of Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), via an automatic conversion on Coinbase.
The action was taken following Adams' pledge to make the city more cryptocurrency-friendly, during his campaign for mayor. Adams wants New York to be "the center of cryptocurrency and other financial innovations".
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is launching its own NFT marketplace, in partnership with Dapper Labs – the company behind the NBA Top Shot platform.
The marketplace, called UFC Strike, will feature video "moments" from the league's history, sold as non-fungible tokens. The platform will closely resemble NBA Top Shot, with the first packs being released on January 23rd.
Binance's US-specific exchange, Binance.US, has officially begun serving the state of Connecticut with trading services. Residents in the state will now be able to buy, sell and trade cryptocurrencies via the platform.
The expansion is the next step in the platform's quest to provide services across all 50 states and territories – now currently operating in 44.
