Clinton outlined that the destabilizing effects of cryptocurrencies would likely begin with small countries and continue onto much larger ones – including a potential threat to the reserve currency status of the US dollar. A new all-time high has been reached for the total value locked within Ethereum Layer-2 scaling platforms, with a total of $5.64 billion. Arbitrum One accounts for $2.67 billion of the total, or around 45%, while decentralized derivatives exchange dYdX accounts for $975 million. The rise in Layer-2 adoption has been attributed to their ability to process cheaper and faster transactions compared to the Ethereum base layer, which currently has an average transaction fee of around $40. Crypto lending platform Celsius Network has added another $300 million to its investment into Bitcoin mining, bringing it to a total of $500 million. The investment will expand Celsius Network's Bitcoin mining operations in North America, seeking to capitalize on the Chinese crackdown on cryptocurrency activity earlier this year. |
