As we approach the end of 2020...

The CIty of Cockburn would like to acknowledge the perseverance, resilience and hard work of our local business community, most of whom have survived, and some that have even thrived in 2020.

What a year we have had, with challenges no one could anticipate. It has been an honour to assist businesses through this year, with various local initiatives such as:
  • Our first ever #ShopLocalCockburn campaign
  • The Business Rebound program
  • Social distancing packs for businesses
  • Free COVID-19 stimulus advisory services and Small Business First Aid, in the initial stages of the pandemic
  • The Open for Business Map and a Community Business Directory to support the vulnerable in our community
  • A 0% average rate increase
  • Freezing of all City determined fees and charges at 2019/2020 levels
  • Eliminating instalment and penalty interest on rates as well as other associated fees and charges
  • Removing the mandatory waste service levy from those commercial/industrial properties not using the City’s waste service.
The City of Cockburn community has emphasised to the City that the recovery and support of our business community is a top priority, and we are continually working on developing programs and activities to support our business community in 2021 and beyond. Most excitingly in the new year, we will launch our Grants to Support Local Economic Development, a project which has been accelerated due to the impacts of COVID-19. If you have ideas about how the CIty can support you in 2021, please contact me at business@cockburn.wa.gov.au.

To all those who contacted me throughout the year to keep me informed about the challenges you are facing, I hope I was able to assist. I wish you and your families all the best for the festive season and hope that you will be safe and well.

All the best,

Sarah Kahle

CoSafe - here to help Cockburn businesses

The City of Cockburn’s CoSafe service operates 24/7. Officers undertake specialised training to manage a wide range of issues in the community such as anti-social and suspicious behaviour, noise complaints and vandalism. The service works closely with WA Police on matters that affect our community, and advocate and escalate community concerns as required.

How CoSafe assists the business community:
  • Quick response times to assist a business quickly and effectively
  • Supported by over 500 CCTV cameras throughout the City, including mobile and covert cameras
  • Artificial intelligence monitoring and alert software to allow for both preventative and reactive action
  • Officers equipped with fitness, driving, cultural-awareness, psychometric and nationally-accredited testing and security training.
CoSafe Officers have worked tirelessly to build a strong rapport with the community, including youth, and always work to resolve incidents in a friendly and calm manner to ensure minimal disruption or negative flow on effects.  The City of Cockburn strongly encourages business to contact CoSafe on 1300 267 233 for any reason.

Prevention of anti-social behaviour
CoSafe Officers regularly patrol busy community spaces such as shopping centres to discourage anti-social behaviour. A business owner from Stargate Shopping Centre in Spearwood contacted the City recently “I just wanted to forward my appreciation onto the CoSafe team for doing regular patrols of the shopping centre where I work. The antisocial behaviour has really died down since it begun. Thank you!”.
